Academic Advisor

The Academic Advisor provides students with the necessary support to meet study requirements at the University.

The Academic Advisor works in the direction of having at least two regular meetings with students during each semester. The following are included in the Academic Advisor’s duties:

  • Identifying students’ needs and interests, supporting students’ inclinations and skills and urging them to follow the relevant fields;
  • Facilitating students’ transition from secondary to higher education;
  • Facilitating the student’s contacts with university authorities and administrative bodies and services;
  • Providing assistance in the preparation of students’ individual semester schedule and determining students’ bachelor thesis topic;
  • Providing information on issues related to students’ professional orientation, based on their interests and the continuation of their academic career (e.g. postgraduate studies in Greece and abroad).
  • Recognizing students who fall behind with their studies;
  • Caring for and drawing up a plan for these students.

The Academic Advisor of each Department will organize at least one workshop per academic semester. Details for the workshop are posted on the main page of the Department, ten working days before the event, under the care and supervision of the Academic Advisor. The minimum content in the public announcement includes:

  1. General description of the workshop
  2. Name and contact information of the workshop’s speaker
  3. Date and place of the workshop
  4. Electronic way of registration to the workshop
  5. Registration deadline
  6. Ways of evaluating the workshop and the participants

Before this event, the Academic Advisor in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Unit design the way and the content of the workshop’s evaluation.

Every member of the Academic Staff may be appointed as Academic Advisors by the Department Assembly.

Students, especially freshmen, are encouraged to regularly meet the Academic Advisor for better schedule organization and solving relevant problems. Students are responsible for their decisions regarding study issues.

The academic staff, the administrative staff, the Laboratory Directors and Heads of the Departments, as well as the competent services of the Institution cooperate and support  Academic Advisors in their work, while taking into account their information, observations, suggestions and requests for any shortcomings and malfunctions that create problems to students as well as any suggestions for dealing with them.

For meaningful support regarding study issues, the Academic Advisor of every Department is to cooperate with the Unit of Supporting Vulnerable Social Groups.

Students’ contact with the Academic Advisor:

  • Students are informed through the Department’s website about the Academic Advisor and submit an online application form.
  • The Academic Advisor communicates with the student and they book an appointment for personal conversation, support and guidance through zoom.
  • The Academic Advisor keeps an electronic record with students’ personal information, the questions that were asked and some conclusions reached through discussion.
  • The Academic Advisor keeps data from students’ names, meeting dates and the kind of conversation.
